The Port Adelaide Football Club has a rich history which dates back to the 1870�s when the club played its first match. The club is one of the most successful senior clubs and holds the record of winning six SANFL premierships in a row. Port Adelaide won its first SANFL flag in 1884 and thereafter continued its successful journey till 1914. In 1914 the Port Adelaide team created record by winning the whole season and becoming the Champions of Australia. During the 1930�s it won three flags and the arrival of Fos Williams gave a new direction to the Port Adelaide team. Fos led the team to win nine premierships and contributed significantly towards the development of the club. During 1950, the Port Adelaide club won six SANFL premiership matches consecutively and created a record of all times.
In the following years, Port Adelaide continued dominating the SANFL scenario and won nine flags between 1988 and 1996. On becoming a member of the AFL group, the colours, teal and blue were added to the jersey which had the famous black and white combination. The team was also given the new nickname of Port Power and in 1999, the team participated in the finals of the AFL matches. After completing ten sessions at the AFL, the Port Adelaide club has been a part of the finals six times, won two premierships in 2001 and 2002 and won the first AFL Premiership in the year 2004. At the end of 2006 season, the Port Adelaide club has played 22 games, out of which it has won 8 matches and ranked 12th on the world ranking ladder.
The Port Adelaide team members have won many prestigious awards like the Norm Smith medal has been won by Byron Pickett in 2004. The Port Adelaide club holds the record of becoming the Champions of Australia four times in 189, 1910, 1913 and 1914. The SANFL Stanley H. Lewis Memorial Trophy has been own 11 times by the Port Adelaide team and this is the highest record. The SANFL Magarey Medal has been won by several players like Geof Motley, Trevor Obst, Russell Ebert, Nathan Buckley and Greg Anderson among others.
The present coach of the Port Adelaide club is Mark Williams and captain is Warren Tredrea. According to the latest survey in the 2007 season, the Port Adelaide holds the second position on the ladder.
